How to use the Houston 311 Site

What is 311?

311 is the City of Houston’s non-emergency department directory and self-service city request line.

In addition to the 311 web site and online service requests, agents are available 24/7 to answer your calls.

The 311 website allows the citizens of Houston to access information, request city services and report problems at anytime of the day or night.

REMEMBER…

For emergencies, always call 911!

How do I Use the Online Site to File a Request, Report a Problem or File a Complaint?

Click on the service category from the icons on the 311.org homepage and locate the service you are requesting or reporting from the sub categories.

For a complete list of City Departments and services, you can also reference the alphabetized City Directory here.

Are All City Service Requests Available via Online Submission?

No. Though we have over 100 service requests online and are adding more everyday, not all service requests are available online. To determine if you can submit your service request online, find the service you are seeking. You will see icons next to the service.

HELPFUL SEARCH TIPS

For better search results, avoid using directional prefixes such as N, S, E, or W, and suffixes such as Street, Road, or Boulevard when entering the street address. For example, search for 900 N. Windswept Boulevard by using only "Windswept" as the street name and for numeric streets, such as 900 West 22nd Street, use "22nd" as the street name. For addresses on the Loop where a directional location is important to finding a particular property (i.e. North Loop West), enter N Loop W with no periods, while for streets such as T.C. Jester, enter T C Jester using no periods and a space between the T and the C. Please be aware that it is quite common for non-profit locations and government facilities to lack a proper address in the database and you may need to use the intersection format to submit a service request.
